Meet Birgitte

I love teaching! I am so inspired when my students begin to understand what building a relationship with the body has to offer. I see it all the time and it makes me very happy. Embracing the discovery and development of this mind-body-soul connection is an opportunity to learn about ourselves.

I have taught and coached a wide variety of movement classes, helping individuals get in shape and get stronger in different ways. I've taught cycling, strength training, aerobics, and Pilates classes, as well as offering balance and mobility improvement, motor development for young kids, and injury recovery programs. In 2015 I had a hip replacement. With new awareness to post-surgery movement, I have enjoyed using my personal experience to help others find mobility after injury or changes in the body in an empathetic way. Pilates has become a focus for me over the last few years. I am so excited to learn what Pilates can bring to everybody, no matter what their age or movement history.

Movement is essential to maintaining physical abilities, but with each stage of life comes new physical challenges. Maybe we have been told that we are not good at running or dancing, so we stop. Or, as we get older we spend more time sitting down and start to feel stiff and our sense of balance might deteriorate. When we stop playing, which is a natural part of moving, we start to feel stifled.

I have a lots of energy and it comes in handy (energy creates energy!) but I also really enjoy the slowing down and taking on the challenge of developing smaller movements and concentrating on physical details.

I have always been excited about life. I am curious and love exploring different places, cultures, and people. I feel very lucky to have grown up in Denmark, which has influenced me in so many ways. I continue to keep my Danish roots alive, while also feeling at home and grateful to be living in the Bay Area.

I am a happy person (Danish people are rated the happiest in the world!) and very early on I found that moving,  dancing, skipping, jumping, bouncing, rolling, gives me inspiration and makes me feel alive. I have always been physically active and I feel the benefit. As a young child, I became a gymnast and enjoyed the challenge and discipline. After grammar school, I was accepted to attend Ib and Alice Martins Ballet School in Copenhagen. I loved being a full-time student which led to training, rehearsing and performing as a dancer in several dance companies in Denmark.

My movement history began my journey that continues to allow me to connect with movers of all backgrounds and abilities. Whatever your ability, I am excited to help guide you into a fit lifestyle that can make you feel happy in your body.
